Jio Free Phone Launched in India : India’s wealthiest man Mukesh Ambani announced the launch of Jio “intelligent” phone, offering life-long free voice calls bundled with 4G data streaming at an “effective price of zero”.
The phone is the third step in Ambani’s three-step plan to bring an end to “digital disempowerment and unfairness.” Pointing out that there are 78 crore phones in India, of which more than 50 crore are feature phone users, Ambani expressed his regret that so many users will be left out of the “digital revolution.” His three-step plan aims to address just this issue.
The first two steps of the plan involve improving connectivity and data affordability. Ambani promised that Jio 4G network coverage will cover 99 percent of India’s population, surpassing 2G networks in that regard.
Jio Phone runs on VoLTE network and comes with a host of pre-installed services such as JioTV and JioCinema apps. The device also has its own digital assistant along with the support for voice commands. It also comes with support for 24 Indian languages. Reliance says that users can long press on the ‘5’ key to directly call their near and dear ones. Furthermore, the company will bring NFC feature on Jio-branded phones as well later this year. The feature will arrive as part of a software update.
Main benefits of JioPhone are user can use the phone for 36 months, after that user can get the full refund and deposit if they are returning it.
